It is time.

Remedied. Best of luck on the price but I think it might be a bit high. 1500 under the going price for a solid runner is a hard sell.

Also, out of curiosity did you have a visible leak? I have some slightly seepy valve cover gaskets so I keep an eye on it but it doesn’t leak fast enough to ever make it to the ground, just burns off where it seeps out when the engine gets hot

$2k for a non-running 21 year old SUV with a quarter million miles on it seems a bit high to me. Then again, I will never understand Toyota truck/SUV prices.

Is it originally from Billings MT?

Looks like the registration sticker is older than the car. But def a Billings plate.

I think that’s going to have to slide down a bit unless the market for them is really hot there right now. Over the summer I spent around 3200 on a 1991 with the same engine and a 5 speed, running and as problem free as a 25 year old vehicle will be, and 25,000 fewer miles.
4Runners hold their value well but not as crazily as the pickups for some reason.

When you can get a running example for a little more, the price seems high. What I don’t get about Toyota truck prices is a one year old Tacoma with 10k on it is like only 1k less than a new one, why in the hell would you not just get a new one. It’s not like they’re rare, it’s not a 1M, there’s more than 6 of them out there.

Not to rub it in, but when I was driving from WA to TX. I randomly decided to check my oil. Nothing on the dipstick. I was in the middle of nowhere in CA so I had to drive another 50 miles before getting oil from a gas station. Over 3,000 miles later and it’s fine :D

That sucks, and I feel you. Had a 4runner die on me from oil starvation as well. 3.4 swaps are about $900 iirc if you want to keep it. You won’t get $2k for it. I didn’t even get $1200 for a running one with less miles. Shit, I’ve bought running ones for $200 before. Part it out, or 3.4 swap it.

Good to know I’m not the only one with this problem.

If you look closely you can see where some comes out. If I leave it sit for awhile I can smell a hint of burning oil for a bit once it gets warm. It doesn’t even drop fast enough to notice on the dipstick, in the 1500 miles since my last change its gone from the full line to kinda in between so I just ignore it and look every couple trips or every long trip to keep an eye.

Yeah, especially like the 10+ year old ones with 150,00-250,000 miles that still cost 12 grand. Like to be fair its half the cost of a new one once you count four wheel drive and an extra cab but that’s still ridiculous. Another 12 or 15 grand and it’s brand new.

Haha. Mine does the same.

Haha, we are sorry for your loss..
But back when I was young and dumb I would let the 22re run so low it would rattle at idle.. Then I started it at -44c a few time and probably cut 10 years off its life.. Last I saw it was headed to Belize..
Swap it and keep it- 4runners with no body rust are getting harder and harder to find.

Sorry about your loss of wheels. I randomly decided to check my oil the other day, and it was bone dry. Old Toyotas leak and burn oil, I should know better.
You should probably drop that price to $1k asap and take $500.

On a trip from Alabama to South Carolina, on nothing but interstate, mine burned 2.5 quarts. They are thirsty in more than one way.

Yes. I’ll chalk it up to my negligence of maintenance, but it was getting close to exams so I didn’t really have a ton of time to do anything but study.

Nope, bought the plate off eBay for like $10. Originally purchased in Jackson, MS IIRC.
